Discover our different treatment methods and how a journey unfolds

First appointment

For a first appointment, you should allow approximately one hour. We discuss your specific complaints and ask targeted questions. A clinical examination follows and we evaluate both tongue and pulse. We view your complaints from the perspective of Western medicine, but we also look for the underlying cause according to the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). After that, we draw up a treatment plan. Often a treatment already takes place during this first consultation. We use general acupuncture or auriculotherapy (ear acupuncture) for this. Both methods can be applied separately or in combination, depending on your situation. This is always clearly explained and discussed with you.

Additional techniques

Sometimes a treatment can be enhanced by adding a mild electrical current via the needle or directly to the acupuncture point. We call this electro-acupuncture. In other cases, a point can be warmed with moxa. This is done by placing moxa (dried mugwort, Artemisia vulgaris) on the needle or by warming the point directly with a moxa stick. For children, and for adults with extreme fear of needles, laser acupuncture can be a good alternative. Another technique that is regularly used is cupping. This involves placing a glass cup on the skin. This is made airtight, sometimes slightly heated. This stimulates blood circulation, releases tension and removes cold and other pathogenic factors from outside.

Advice and guidance

In my practice I offer acupuncture treatments, supplemented if necessary with nutritional and lifestyle advice. Sometimes I also discuss the use of a preparation from phytotherapy. If my treatments are not an option for you, I will refer you to your GP or specialist if necessary.
